Our Staff

Ron Skover, Owner

In his own words:

My father, also Ron Skover, was a draftsman / engineer for Ford and prior to that had worked at GM. Before transitioning to the automotive industry, he drafted / designed missiles for the government, a job that required traveling the U.S.

Always an entrepreneur, my father “flipped” cars and then houses before “flipping” was popular.

Our family moved from Detroit to Port Huron area in 1968 while Dad was still working at Ford near Ann Arbor, but he grew weary of the daily commute. That’s when he started Greenlawn, 1969. By 1971, having accumulated enough accounts with the Greenlawn business to feed the family, he gave his resignation to Ford.

I purchased the business in 1989.

I have an associates degree in science from St. Clair County Community College and have completed so many seminars at Michigan State University, I almost feel I should be awarded an honorary bachelors degree.

With my wife Lori and Cara the Corgi, we enjoy times out of doors and traveling.

Lori and I have bred and raised many multi-titled World Champion Morgan horses and continue to show horses under saddle and in harness throughout Michigan and Kentucky.

This company is “my baby.” We want to help customers get the lush, green, weed-free landscape they’re looking for and give them service they expect.

Brian Nelson, Operations Manager

Brian Nelson started working at Greenlawn in 1997 and has never looked back.

Having taken on more and more leadership of the day-to-day operations, he’s more than the operations manager. He’s the person you’re most likely to talk to when you have a concern about your landscape and very likely to be able to resolve the issue.

A graduate of Walsh College with a bachelor’s degree in finance, Brian grew up in Capac. Today, he resides in Riley Township with his wife and two children. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, hiking and mountain biking.

“What I enjoy most about this company is the gratification of fixing a problem or making something look more appealing,” Brian says.

“I take satisfaction in getting a response from a customer about how the fall cleanup immediately made the yard look so nice and also in the year-long process of turning a field of weeds into desirable turf.

I believe we all want our back yards, and maybe the fronts, to be a sanctuary from everyday life — a park-like setting where you can kick back and relax. I like to think Greenlawn helps our customers get that opportunity.

He added, ”I’ve always enjoyed working both indoors and outdoors, and this job allows me the flexibility to accommodate both.”
